QR code generator

Type or paste a link. The code is drawn in this tab — no request goes out, so the URL never leaves your device.

Static codes, and what that means

Most “free” QR generators produce a dynamic code: the image points at their server, which redirects to your URL. That lets them count scans and charge for the code to keep working after a trial period. It also means your printed code dies if their service does.

This one encodes your text directly into the pattern. There is no redirect, no scan counting, and no expiry. The code works as long as the URL it points at works.

The trade is that you cannot change the destination later. If you might need to repoint a printed poster, you want a dynamic code from a paid service — that is what you are paying for.

Getting the print right

A QR code is a grid of modules, and the reader needs to resolve each one. The practical rule: the code should be at least ten times the scanning distance divided by... in simpler terms, 2 cm across for a phone held 30 cm away, 10 cm across for a poster read at arm's length, 20 cm or more for anything on a wall.

Keep the white border. The quiet zone is not decoration — without it, many scanners fail to lock on. This tool includes a four-module margin by default.

Do not scale a PNG up in Word. Export at 12 or 16 px per module, or use the SVG, which stays sharp at any size.

Questions

Do these codes expire?

No. They encode your text directly, so they work for as long as the URL does.

Can I change the link after printing?

No. A static code is fixed. That is the honest trade for not depending on someone else's server.

How much text fits?

Up to 213 bytes at this error-correction level — roughly 200 characters of URL. Longer text needs a shorter link, usually via a URL shortener.

Will it scan with a bad phone camera?

At medium error correction (level M) it tolerates about 15% damage or blur. Print at a reasonable size and keep the white border, and it will scan.

Can I add a logo in the middle?

You can, but it eats into the error correction budget and this tool does not include the padding that makes it safe. If you need a branded code, generate it at a larger size first.
