Resize an image to 600 × 600
The square that most marketplaces, directories and ID systems ask for. Drop a photo and it comes back exactly 600 pixels on each side.
What this size is used for
600 × 600 is the size where two different worlds collide. On one side it is a physical measurement: two inches square at 300 dots per inch. On the other it is a web convention, used by directories, marketplace profiles, and any system that wants a square avatar.
If you are making an ID photo, use the passport photo tool — it crops to the frame rather than squashing the whole image into it, which is what a face photo needs. If you are making an avatar or a listing image, this page is the right one, and squashing is usually fine because the source is already roughly square.
| Use | Typical requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| US passport / visa photo | 600 × 600 px at 300 dpi | Needs a proper crop, not a squash |
| Marketplace listing | 600 × 600 to 1600 × 1600 | Square, plain background |
| Directory profile | 600 × 600 | Usually centre-cropped by the site anyway |
| Print at 2 × 2 in | 600 × 600 at 300 dpi | Do not upscale a smaller original |
Questions
Will it crop my photo or stretch it?
It stretches, unless the source is already square. For a proper crop, use the passport photo tool.
Can I go bigger, like 1200 × 1200?
Yes — type the numbers you need. Remember that upscaling softens the image.
What file format comes out?
JPG by default, which is right for photos. Switch to PNG if the image has transparency or sharp text.
